Two Brothers Charged with Assaulting Officers
HARVEY CEDARS, NJ- July 28, 2013, at approximately 12:40 am police responded to 6 East 77th Street in the Borough for a report of two males causing a disturbance outside of a residence. The officers located one of the individuals identified as Drew Gieger, 27, from Jersey City who was intoxicated. Officers also located Ryan Gieger, his brother, 30, from Summit, NJ, who was also intoxicated.
The two brothers were belligerent and yelling. The brothers then became aggressive and struck the officers. A struggle ensued, and both brothers were taken into custody. They were taken to Harvey Cedars Police Headquarters where during processing Drew Gieger damaged some police equipment. Ryan Gieger who was injured was also transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center by Barnegat Light First Aid Squad.
Both individuals were then lodged in Ocean County Jail on Aggravated Assault charges in lieu of $10,000 bail. Further investigation has led to additional charges of making threats against police, resisting arrest, being a disorderly person, criminal trespass, and criminal mischief. Detective Robert Burnaford and Officer Christopher Oldham made the arrests and suffered minor injuries.
Officers were assisted by Long Beach Twp Police, Ship Bottom Police, and Surf City Police.
